Here are some frequently asked questions, and their answers.
I am a member of the media or press. How do I contact Mr. Cross or his publicist to talk about "Led Zeppelin: Shadows Taller Than Our Souls" or another book? For LZSTOS contact Vanessa Hope Schneider at It Books, at Harper Collins. Vanessa.Schneider@harpercollins.com. For "Cobain Unseen," email Michelle Aielli at Little Brown, Michelle.Aielli@hbgusa.com ; in the U.K. email Eleni Fostropoulos at Hodder, eleni.fostiropoulos@hodder.co.uk if you are simply a reader or fan, please e mail the author directly at charlesrcross@aol.com
When is your next book coming out? I am working on a memoir; that should be out in two years or so.
Have you seen “fill in the blank” web site involving a conspiracy theory around the death of Kurt Cobain/Jimi Hendrix/Jim Morrison/September 11/Darwinism/J.F.K.? Yes. Even though I may not have referenced such a theory in my books, I’m well aware that there are people sometimes authors of books, films, television shows, or websites who believe all sorts of things. As a biographer, I owe it to my subjects to give them fair, accurate, and well-researched biographies but also to avoid demeaning their memories with conspiracy nonsense. The best metaphor for this may be Neil Armstrong, the first man to ever walk on the moon: In a biography of Armstrong, would a reader really want to read an entire chapter on how certain people believe the moon landing was faked? To do so would be to demean Armstrong, his memory, and the reader’s intelligence. Please do not send me inquiries about conspiracy theories I do not respond to them.
I am writing a book report/school paper/term paper/dissertation based on one of your books. Can you give me more information? Any information I’d want to give would already be in my books or on this site. My suggestion is to type my full name (“Charles R. Cross”) into any of a number of search engines and you’ll most likely find all you need to know. I’d suggest you search both articles about me, particularly in the Seattle newspapers, but also my own writing.
Can you give me the personal e-mail address of famous celebrities, i.e. Kurt Cobain/Courtney Love/Jimi Hendrix/etc.? Trust me, Jimi Hendrix does not have Wi-fi internet access. I cannot give out personal information for anyone. If you truly wish to write to celebrities, particularly musicians, I’d suggest you write them care of their record companies these physical letters are always forwarded.
How can I write you/send you my CD/or make large monetary contributions (in cash) to you? You’ll find my mailing address on the “order books” page.
Will you sign my copy of your book? I will gladly sign any and all of my books at personal appearances or readings (check this site for a schedule). If you can’t make one of those, you can buy an autographed copy from this web site.
Will you come speak to my book club? If you’re in the Seattle area, and you have good food, it’s a possibility. I am always gratified when my books are used by book clubs, and can provide sample discussion points.
